Duisburg, 15 April 2026. Slag is a high-quality by-product of industrial manufacturing processes, such as those in the steel industry, and has long been used as a building material and fertiliser in a way that protects the climate and conserves resources. Every two years, international experts gather at the European Slag Conference to discuss topics related to science, applications, regulatory frameworks, and the environment. The 13th edition, taking place June 16–18, 2026, in Luleå, Sweden, will focus on the topics “Legislation, Rules, and Standards,” “Research and Innovation,” “Supplementary Cementitious Materials,” “Slag Treatment,” and “Valorization and Best Practices.” The 13th EUROSLAG Conference is organized by Jernkontoret, the Swedish Iron and Steel Producers Association, the metal research institute Swerim, Luleå University of Technology, and the European association EUROSLAG.
On 16 and 17 June 2026, participants, such as steel producers, slag processors, equipment providers, government and regulatory authorities, researchers and end-users of slag, can look forward to more than 60 presentations and poster pitches at Kulturens Hus, located in the heart of Luleå. In addition, a special session on
industrial symbiosis will take place on 15 June, 2026. On 18 June, there will be an opportunity to visit the Boliden Rönnskär smelter, the SSAB steel plant or the UNESCO World Heritage Site Gammelstad Church Town.
Thomas Reiche, Chairman of EUROSLAG and Managing Director of FEhS Building Materials Institute: Decarbonisation and transformation, resource conservation, the circular economy and climate protection: these immense economic and environmental challenges need to be tackled at international level. This also applies to steel slag and the products manufactured from it. We are therefore looking forward with optimism to the 13th Euroslag Conference, where the latest research findings will be presented and forward-looking topicswill be discussed.“
